Sarah A. Green

 

Dr. Sarah A. Green is a Professor Emerita at Michigan Technological University. After earning her Ph.D. in Chemical Oceanography from the MIT-Woods Hole Joint Program in Oceanography, Dr. Green engaged in environmental research projects in the oceans, forests, soils, atmosphere, and in the Laurentian Great Lakes. At Michigan Tech she served as Chair of the Chemistry Department from 2004 to 2013, and as interim Chair from 2020 through 2023. Dr. Green was selected as a Jefferson Science Fellow in the U.S. State Department (2013-14) where her focus was environmental issues in the Asia-Pacific region. She subsequently served as Co-chair of the Scientific Advisory Panel for the Global Environmental Outlook (GEO-6), a United Nations Environmental Programme report (2015-19). She is currently a contributing author to the GEO-7 report. At Michigan Tech she taught courses in atmospheric and analytical chemistry, and developed a course in climate science and policy. That course became linked with the Youth Environmental Alliance in Higher Education YEAH in 2020. Dr. Green has led the Michigan Tech delegations to COP25 (Madrid), COP26 (Glasgow), COP27 (Sharm el Sheik), and COP28 (Dubai) where students have actively learned and engaged with policy-makers through press conferences, side events, and pavilion programs. She is committed to promoting science-base solutions that empower citizens to build the future we want.
