Ruth Shortall

Ruth Shortall is a postdoctoral researcher at TU Delft, at the faculty of Technology, Policy and Management. Her motivation lies in connecting all kinds of people, cultures and technologies to achieve sustainable solutions for society and the planet. Her qualifications include a Bachelor of International Commerce with French, Masters of Computer Science and Applications, Masters of Environment and Natural Resources and a PhD on sustainability assessment of geothermal energy, from the University of Iceland. She has also worked for several years in the IT industry and for the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. Her current research relates to developing alternatives to traditional economic policy analysis tools by incorporating citizen’s ethical and environmental concerns into real-world economic policy analysis. She is working on the implementation of the participatory value evaluation (PVE) method in several municipalities in the Netherlands.  Ruth’s other research interests include sustainable energy technologies, digital tools for sustainable societies, public participation in policy making, sustainability and well-being, social and cultural aspects of sustainable transitions,  green IT systems and circular economy.
