Her publications focus on the circular economy (CE), specifically CE conceptualization and measuring CE progress in combining approaches from innovation systems research. From 2014-2018 Denise held a position as Junior Lecturer and Researcher at the University of Utrecht where she taught a variety of subjects related to her research interests in sustainable business, such as corporate social responsibility, organizational change management, sustainable and closed-loop supply chain management, sustainable entrepreneurship, technology venturing and innovation management.

She has a deep interest in the governance of transitions and social change processes beyond business studies owed to her inter-disciplinary education as a Master of Science in Environmental Management and Governance.
