In wealthy Thailand, it is all about making money. Using a big trough (left), a team of three can make 6,000 litersl of corn field or tree prunings char a day. During the dry season when no work is available, each team member can make double the average local wage. In poorer Malawi, farmers keep all the char they make in a trench (right) for fertilizer
