Denis Hayes is President of Seattle's Bullitt Foundation and the developer of www.bullittcenter.org. At various times in his career he has been the director of SERI (now the National Renewable Energy Laboratory), adjunct professor of engineering at Stanford University, a Silicon Valley attorney, and Assistant to the Governor of Illinois for Energy and Environment. He has been a senior fellow at the Worldwatch Institute, a scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center, a von Weizsäcker fellow at the Bosch Foundation, and a visiting scholar at the Bellagio Center. In 1970, he was national coordinator of the first Earth Day; he led the effort to take the event international in 1990; and he chairs the 50th anniversary for the Earth Day Network. His most recent book is COWED: The Hidden Impact of 93 Million Cows on America’s Health, Economy, Politics, Culture, and Environment, which he co-authored with his wife.
